This suburban home in Christchurch was built for a couple who wanted a forever home, ready for retirement and large enough to accommodate extended family.
This new build was spacious, but needed to be low maintenance. This meant selecting materials that would hold true to weather conditions, without constant work. Using coloursteel for the majority of the cladding was an obvious choice and we recommended a tray profile and installed vertically, to add interest. The horizontal cedar cladding provided contrast but was only used as a feature so ongoing maintenance would be minimised.
Two ranchsliders flow onto the square deck outside. We used Kwila for this deck as it doesn’t require ongoing treatment and wears well. The positioning of the building creates a pathway to the front door that’s tucked away from weather, with landscaped plantings.
Our client’s words: “We were fortunate enough to be able to secure Kawhata and his team at Niche Design and construction to build our large home. We found his attention to detail, and his relationship with us and his staff outstanding. Kawhata went the extra mile to make sure our complex build went smoothly, he was always happy to listen and achieve perfectly any changes we made during the build. I would highly recommend you consider Niche Design and Construction when building your new home or renovation.”
